2024 National Tug of War Championship Kicks Off in Sihanoukville

PHNOM PENH, April 13, 2024: The Cambodian Tug of War Federation is currently hosting the 2024 National Tug of War Championship and the inaugural Idol Award from May 10 to 12 in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province.

This year's championship aims to elevate the sport of Tug of War, encouraging lifelong participation and celebrating the ninth anniversary of its inscription as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2015. The event also serves as a crucial platform for preparing Cambodian athletes for the upcoming SEA Games 2025 in Thailand.

The tournament has drawn 312 athletes, coaches, and sports delegates from 12 associations across Cambodia. Participants include teams from the Ministry of Interior, Naval Command, and the provinces of Kampong Chhnang, Kampot, Kampong Cham, Kep, Kandal, Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Speu, Svay Rieng, Battambang, and Thbong Khmum.

Competitors will battle it out in eight disciplines, featuring both team and individual events. These include men’s and women’s 8 vs. 8, men's and women's 4 vs. 4, and men's and women's 1 vs. 1 matches. Additionally, the first Idol Award will spotlight the top teams in men's and women's 8 vs. 8 categories.
